Hitler Declared Himself Führer of the German Reich and People

On this day, Hitler declared himself Führer, 17 days after German President Paul von Hindenburg passed away. Hitler exploited his role as Chancellor and used the German military’s support to abolish the President’s office, creating the new position of Führer of the German Reich and People. Hitler's creation of the position of Führer gave him the ability to make decisions not bound by the laws of Germany, making him an absolute dictator. Once he established himself as the leader, every soldier in the army and civil servant swore a new oath of allegiance. This establishment catalyzed Hitler's plan to create a Nazi state in Germany where Aryans were believed to be of superior race. As a result, Hitler's streak of implementing laws persecuting Jews, Romas, and other minorities began, giving him the invitation to eradicate the Jews.
